Welcome to the International Department of Waitaki Boys’ High School. With over 130 years of educational service to New Zealand and the world, Waitaki Boys’ High School offers an outstanding learning environment for teenage boys in Oamaru, North Otago. Providing a range of opportunities for our students, inside and outside of the classroom, we help our students discover their passion and fulfil their potential. For nearly thirty years, international students have been an important and integral part of our school as they bring with them vibrancy and global perspectives to our school. We are grateful to all our international students for making our school community much more culturally diverse and responsive.

Participation, community involvement and leadership are cornerstones of the Waitaki Boys’ High School experience, both in and out of the classroom. Waitaki Boys’ High School students are renowned for their commitment to academic life as well as their enthusiastic participation in other activities available to them on campus, including student clubs and organisations and a diverse sports program.

Waitaki Boys High School has high expectations of our students in everything we do. Such an approach creates a culture of achievement. As a school, we believe in:

  • Celebrating success in all forms
  • Achieving excellence in everything we do
  • Helping our students reach their personal best
  • Developing lifelong positive habits, manners and values in our students
  • Providing equality of opportunity for all of our students
  • Embracing and respecting differences

Our academic faculties are committed to providing students with high quality instruction and a wide array of learning opportunities. With an enrolment of about 450 students, Waitaki Boys’ High School is small enough to preserve a strong sense of community yet large enough to allow for a rich variety of courses. All members of the Waitaki Boys’ High School community - students, faculty, staff and alumni - pride themselves on our vision of preparing students and leaders for a global society. I hope to welcome you to this vibrant and close-knit community school. It's a relationship that will last a lifetime.

We thank you for your interest in our school and we would be delighted to answer any questions you may have.
