If you can provide a “home away from home” for International Students during School Holidays, we’d love to hear from you!

The Don House Hostel is looking for people and families who would like to become a homestay provider for the Hostels’ International Students.

We need families who can welcome a student into their home during the school holiday and over long weekends.  (This doesn’t include the Christmas holiday break).  

It’s a great way for hosts to learn about other cultures and lifestyles with the opportunity to share what Oamaru has to offer.  Hosting one of our international students can be extremely rewarding. Families who are caring supportive and host with an open mind will form long lasting relationships with their students and it may suit a variety of people including couples, single parents, families and retirees. 

We would welcome interest from anyone living in the local area considering hosting.  It is important that English is spoken in the home and that the home is clean, warm and inviting.  Students do need to have their own bedroom and be provided with meals, which are covered by a homestay fee paid to hosts.

You will be supported by the school and provided with information including what to expect to ensure your homestay is a fun and happy experience.
