The Waitaki Boys’ High School Old Boys’ Association has long played a vital role in maintaining strong connections between former pupils and the school, fostering lifelong friendships and supporting its ongoing success through scholarships and prizegiving contributions. After decades of service, the association has now been formally disbanded. The decision, described by Rector Darryl Paterson as both emotional and necessary, reflects changing times, with declining membership and a shift toward online connection among former students. The association’s remaining funds of approximately $200,000 have been transferred to the school’s Foundation to ensure continued support for students and preserve key traditions, including the annual Milner Scholarship and Medal, carrying forward the legacy of the Old Boys in a modern way.
Over the past four years we have had two ceremonies to induct old boys' into the Waitaki Boys' Sports Hall of Fame to recognise outstanding sporting achievements. National repesentation is a pre-requisite. Photographs of the inductees hang proudly in the foyer of the school auditorium.
