Kia ora Whānau
Term 3 is well underway with many events, but the main focus for the staff and students is on academic progress as we are quickly approaching NCEA end of year exams. Teachers are working hard in order to prepare students for NCEA assessments. I would encourage you to reach out to your child's whānau teacher or Dean if you would like to discuss their progress. Whānau and school relationship and communication are so important to support our young people.
It has been fantastic to have many of our Term 2 Talent Quest finalists perform in our Monday assemblies. Celebrating their talents and skills as a school has been fantastic. We are also so proud of the band ‘Daly Waters’, which is made up of Albert King, Davi Vogel Brayner and Flynn Hayes. Their band was good enough to make it through to the top 30 bands in the National Rockquest competition. An outstanding achievement!
Our Kapa Haka joined with the Waitaki Girls Kapa Haka and performed at the North Otago Matariki Hui on Thursday. This was a great event with many primary, intermediate, and secondary schools from around the area participating.
On Wednesday 31st July, we hosted an open night for future potential boys and parents to have a look around and see what Waitaki Boys’ has to offer. This was a great event as we look forward to another very positive intake of Y9 boys for 2025.
At the start of this term, we welcomed Mrs Pelitisi Kavatoe to our teaching team. Mrs Kavatoe comes with a wealth of experience and has made a great contribution to our English department. When you come into the school reception you may notice another new face. Mrs Glenda Fawcett has joined our team as the Administrator for Human Resourcing. We are grateful to have Mrs Fawcett join us in this capacity.
It is great sadness that we will be saying farewell to Mr Mark Wilson at the end of Week 4. Mark has been pivotal in providing our Alternative Education program with strong connection, passion and desire to see the best for the boys. We wish Mark all the best for the next chapter.
Next week around 140 of our boys will be representing us at the Timaru Boys High School interschool sports exchange. This is one of our biggest exchanges, we look forward to hearing the results and wish the boys all the best for this event.
