Update from the Commissioner
Update from the Commissioner / News / Waitaki Boys' High School
8 December 2016
Following a phase in the school’s history that might be likened to a redesign, with the appointment of a permanent Rector, the school is now moving into a phase of rebuilding.
Having been a part of the extensive redesign phase, I felt that it was timely to have a fresh person to work with the new principal to lead the school as it implements the rebuilding phase and so a new commissioner will take over at the start of the 2017 school year.
The change of commissioner has been gazetted today and Craig Smith is looking forward to taking up the governance role and working with the school community to establish a board of trustees in due course.
Between now and the beginning of the 2017 school year, Mr Smith and I will be working with Mr Rennie and Mr Paterson to make the transition of leadership at both governance and management level a smooth and seamless one.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the students, staff, parents and school community members who have supported the school and me in my role as commissioner. In particular I wish to express my gratitude to Mr Rennie for the way in which he has lifted the morale of the whole school this year and restored relationships between the school and the wider community – Mr Rennie’s contribution to the school’s proud history should not go unremarked.
I wish you all a safe and happy festive season and look forward to reading of the school’s progress as it continues to strive to be regarded as one of New Zealand’s great boys’ schools.
